How did Girls Fly! Pakistan come about?
Girls Fly! Pakistan was founded as a result of the curated effort of a team of like-minded and supportive women, who under the mentorship of Gael Sylvia Pullen, aim to give back to their communities. The platform believes in the power and capability of women in changing the world for the better. Hence, as an extension of the global Girls Fly! Network, the Pakistan chapter, is eager to empower women into believing their dreams are possible.
Girls Fly! Pakistan History
When embarked on the journey, the team delved into the opportunity to develop a chapter for the youth, especially women and girls in Pakistan. The aim was to develop a safe space for girls who understand their challenges and explore unique measures to solve them. As a means to enhance exposure, the platform allows girls to be self-sufficient in better dealing with their challenges and breaking through from their cultural limitations.
As alumni of the Sister2sister Exchange program, the team pursued exchange scholarships at some of the top schools in the United States, including Pitzer College, Georgetown University, Purdue University, Virginia Tech, and Southern Methodist University. Having experienced multicultural settings, the core team was passionate to capitalize their networks and resources in opening a window of opportunity for their local community.
GF! Pakistan is not built to provide one-time relief services; the platform provides awareness, mentorship, skill development and work opportunities.
Girls Fly! Pakistan recognizes the challenges of a developing economy, with its sectors still growing. However, being part of a competitive international system requires the best experiences and resources in order to stand out. With limited outreach and expansive international competition, GF! Pakistan wants to limit the gap between Pakistani professionals and international opportunities. Hence GF! Pakistan is focused on its efforts to network opportunities and secure them for women and girls in Pakistan; making them feel empowered and capable.
